Commemorating 81 Years of Indonesian Independence: Preserving Unity in Diversity University General

Denpasar, Monday, August 17, 2026 — The entire academic community of the Political Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, extends its warmest greetings in commemoration of the 81st Anniversary of the Independence of the Republic of Indonesia.

Eighty-one years of Indonesian independence represent a long journey built upon courage, struggle, sacrifice, and the spirit of unity. The independence we enjoy today is inseparable from the dedication and sacrifices of the nation’s predecessors, who placed the common good above differences and individual or group interests.

Indonesia is a nation shaped by diversity. Thousands of identities, including ethnicities, religions, cultures, languages, and social backgrounds, coexist as part of one nation. This diversity is not merely a social reality, but also a fundamental strength in building a strong and united national life.

In the context of democracy, diversity brings together different perspectives and interests that must be managed through dialogue, tolerance, and respect for the rights of every citizen. Democracy is not only about the freedom to express opinions, but also about the responsibility to respect differences and preserve an inclusive shared space.

For the academic community, the spirit of independence can be expressed through the pursuit of knowledge, critical thinking, and active participation in social and political life. Political Science students have an important role in critically understanding national issues, strengthening democratic culture, and contributing to efforts to address the various challenges faced by society.

Independence should also be understood as a responsibility to continue building Indonesia. The nation’s challenges did not end when independence was achieved. Issues such as inequality, social justice, the quality of democracy, education, development, and evolving political and social dynamics require contributions from all elements of society, including the younger generation.

The 81st Anniversary of Indonesian Independence reminds us that unity must continually be nurtured. Differences should never be a reason for division, but rather a social strength for building a stronger shared future. By upholding the spirit of Bhinneka Tunggal Ika — Unity in Diversity, every citizen has a role to play in creating an Indonesia that is sovereign, just, prosperous, democratic, and civilized.

Let us make independence more than an annual celebration. Let it be a moment to continue preserving unity, embracing diversity, strengthening solidarity, and making meaningful contributions to the nation and the country.

Different does not mean divided.
Diverse does not mean distant.
We remain one: Indonesia.
