ELECTION LAW CODIFICATION SEMINAR

The Political Science Study Program at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, held a seminar entitled “Codification of Election Laws: Civil Society Proposals for Improving Democracy.” This event was designed as a forum for dialogue between universities, parliament, and civil society organizations to formulate concrete steps for simplifying election regulations and strengthening public accountability.


The seminar took place on Friday, October 3, 2025, from 8:30 a.m. to 11:35 a.m. WITA at Room R.3.1, Meeting Room I, Postgraduate Building, Udayana University, Bali. The agenda opened with an introduction to the context of codification and the main issues in Indonesia's electoral governance.


Speakers included Heroik M. Pratama (Executive Director of Perludem), Ahmad Doli Kurnia Tandjung (Deputy Chair of the Indonesian House of Representatives Legislation Body), and Kadek Dwita Apriani (Udayana University Political Science Lecturer). The session will be moderated by Ni Made Inten Supriyanti (Lecturer in Political Science at Udayana University) to ensure that the discussion is focused, inclusive, and productive.


Topics discussed included the urgency of codifying the Election Law so that the rules are simpler, more consistent, and easier to implement; protecting the voting rights of vulnerable groups; the integrity of election information; and certainty in law enforcement. Through an exchange of ideas among stakeholders, the seminar aimed to produce actionable recommendations.
