FGD CODIFICATION OF ELECTION LAWS
Denpasar, October 2, 2025 — The Political Science Study Program of the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, together with Perludem, held a focus group discussion (FGD) on “Codification of Election Laws Proposed by Civil Society to Improve Democracy” at Hotel 101 Sanur, Bali.
The event brought together media networks and civil society organizations: AJI Denpasar, LBH APIK Denpasar, Mafindo Bali, AMSI Bali, and Kunti Bhakti (partner of the Indonesian Women's Coalition). The presence of various stakeholders enriched the perspective on the challenges of election regulations at the national and regional levels.
The discussion emphasized the importance of simplifying and harmonizing regulations, protecting the voting rights of vulnerable groups, ensuring the integrity of election information (countering disinformation), and ensuring the enforcement of election laws. Collaboration between the media and civil society was deemed crucial to ensuring transparency and accountability at every stage of the election process.
As a follow-up, participants agreed to draft a policy note on codification and open a public consultation channel to gather input from academics, journalists, and communities in Bali. The Political Science Study Program at FISIP UNUD and Perludem will facilitate this process towards a more democratic and inclusive electoral system for all citizens.
