Denpasar, Friday, July 17, 2026 — The Department of Political Science, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, Udayana University, in collaboration with Centro Nacional Chega! I.P. (CNC) and the Consulate General of Timor-Leste in Bali, will host an International Seminar entitled “Preserving Shared Memory to Strengthen Friendship Towards Reconciliation.”
The international seminar will serve as an academic platform to reflect on the shared historical memory between Indonesia and Timor-Leste while promoting dialogue, mutual understanding, and sustainable friendship between the two countries.
Historical memory plays an important role in shaping how societies understand the past and perceive relationships between communities and nations in the present. Therefore, preserving and understanding shared memory is not simply about remembering past events, but also about creating a more inclusive understanding of diverse historical experiences.
Through this academic forum, participants will be invited to discuss the importance of preserving collective memory as one of the foundations for reconciliation. Open and constructive dialogue is expected to provide broader perspectives on the historical experiences of both countries while encouraging younger generations to engage with history critically and reflectively.
The collaboration between Udayana University, Centro Nacional Chega! I.P., and the Consulate General of Timor-Leste in Bali also highlights the importance of cross-border cooperation in building relationships based on dialogue and mutual understanding. The exchange of knowledge and perspectives through academic engagement is expected to strengthen Indonesia–Timor-Leste relations and support closer cooperation in the future.
For Political Science students and the academic community, this seminar provides an opportunity to broaden their understanding of politics, history, international relations, reconciliation, and socio-political dynamics in the region. The exchange of perspectives also encourages participants to recognize that peacebuilding is not only achieved through policies and diplomatic relations, but also through dialogue, education, and efforts to understand historical experiences collectively.
