PUBLIC LECTURE: “WHY IS INDONESIAN DEMOCRACY DECLINING? A WORKING-CLASS PERSPECTIVE”

Denpasar, Tuesday, December 9, 2025. The Political Science Study Program, Faculty of Social and Political Sciences (FISIP), Universitas Udayana, will organize a Public Lecture entitled “Why Is Indonesian Democracy Declining? A Working-Class Perspective.”

The public lecture will provide an academic space for students to deepen their understanding of democratic developments in Indonesia from the perspective of the working class. The discussion is expected to offer a critical perspective on the political, social, and economic dynamics associated with the development of democracy in Indonesia.

The public lecture will be held as follows:

  • Time: 10:30 AM–12:00 PM WITA

  • Venue: FISIP Hall, 4th Floor, Sudirman Campus, Universitas Udayana

Through this activity, students are expected to gain a deeper understanding of the relationship between democracy, working-class conditions, and the social and economic interests that influence political life. The working-class perspective is also important for examining how democracy operates and provides opportunities for participation among diverse groups within society.

In addition to broadening academic perspectives, the public lecture is expected to strengthen students’ critical and analytical thinking in understanding contemporary democratic issues. Academic discussions of this kind also encourage students to connect theories learned in class with political and social realities in Indonesia.

This Public Lecture is mandatory for all active students of the Political Science Study Program, Universitas Udayana.
